Mary Ann Durgan's Obituary
Mary Ann Durgan, age 91, passed away on Saturday February 26, 2022, in Muskegon, MI. Mary was born in Muskegon on September 26, 1930, to her parents Walter and Anna (Kroll) Mendel. She graduated from the Hackley School of Nursing and went on to work as a nurse for 42 years before retiring in 1994. Mary was a devoted caregiver to all her patients over the years. Mary loved to spend time in the sun, whether it was planting geraniums in her garden, birdwatching, or spending time at Lake Michigan. Throughout her life she enjoyed traveling to Mackinaw Island, North and South Carolina, and many other places. She enjoyed dancing when she was young, but still loved listening to the music of Roy Orbison in her later years. A true lifelong resident of Muskegon, Mary was a fan of Buster Keaton and Lee’s Famous Recipe Chicken. She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards. More than anything else, Mary was a wonderful mother to her seven children and her grandchildren. Mary will be lovingly remembered by six children: Cindy Lapekes, Deb (Michael) Czarnopis, Ned II (Karen) Durgan, Clyde Durgan, Felicia Durgan, and Gretchen (Bob) Langlois; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathleen White. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Mendel; daughter, Lisa Durgan; daughter in-law, Jean Durgan; and three brothers: Richard Mendel, Walter Mendel, and Paul Mendel. Burial has taken place at Norton Cemetery in Norton Shores, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary can be made out to The Harbor Hospice Foundation. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444.
