Mary Louise Erickson's Obituary
Mary Lou Erickson, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023, at the age of 82. Born on April 24, 1941, in Muskegon, Mary Lou was known for her infectious smile, her love of family and friends, and her deep connection to her hometown. Mary Lou spent her entire life in Muskegon, growing up in Bluffton and enjoying the beaches and Lake Michigan. After graduating from Muskegon Catholic Central, she started working at GTE, where she met her husband, Tom. They married in January 1970 and raised a beautiful family together. Mary Lou took a break from work to devote herself to her children and later returned to the workforce at Meijer, where she forged many lasting friendships over the next 22 years. Mary Lou's life was filled with family, friendship, and good beer. She was adored by her family, especially her grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nee”. She loved spending time with her family, creating countless memories that will forever be cherished. In addition to her children, Jon (Rae Jean) Erickson and Kelly (Dan) Niemczak, and her grandchildren, Ian Erickson, Keira Erickson and Brian (Cricket) Erickson, and four great grandchildren, Mary Lou is survived by her step-children, Lynne (Larry) Larsen, Thomas (Lorraine) Erickson, and Tracy Erickson; her siblings, Patricia (Richard) DeLong, Maureen Duff, Jean Duff (Mike Carey), and Joseph (Diane) Duff; and her sister-in-law, Sue Duff. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Sarah “Vivian” Duff; her husband, Thomas Erickson; her siblings, Annette Duff, Michael Duff and Dennis Duff; her nieces, Renee Duff and Angie VanSlambrouck. Mary Lou's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was a true embodiment of kindness, compassion, and unwavering love. Her spirit will continue to shine brightly, illuminating the lives of those she touched. A special thanks to Harbor Hospice for being there for our mom over the past few months. According to Mary Lou's wishes, she will be cremated, and a private family graveside service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday December 15th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Downtown Muskegon Eagles in the Upstairs Banquet Room.
