Mary Lou Evans' Obituary
Mary Lou Evans, age 90 met her Heavenly Father on November 30, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 26, 1934, to Robert and Essie Johnson in Muskegon, MI where she has been a lifelong resident. On August 5, 1950, she married the love of her life, Arthur Evans Sr. in Muskegon, MI. Together they cherished 70 years full of love and laughter. Arthur Sr. preceded her in death on October 20, 2020. Mary Lou dedicated most of her life to supporting her family, raising her children and maintaining a loving home. She had a nurturing personality and in her earlier years she worked as a certified nurse’s assistant at Hackley Hospital. She also volunteered for several years at Edgewood Elementary and was known as everyone’s granny. Mary Lou was a faithful servant of the Lord and dedicated mother of both Morning Star and New Jerusalem Baptist Church. She was known in her community for always putting together events and block parties to bring everyone together. Mary Lou was the “Howden Street” granny who loved and cherished everyone’s children. She had a heart full of love to give not only to her family, but also to her community. Mary Lou had a vibrant spirit that exuded through her outgoing and welcoming personality. Her family meant the world to her, and she will be sorely missed by the many who knew and loved her. She is survived by her three children, Peggy (Jerry) Moore, Arthur (Stella) Evans III and Miracle (Darian) Jones; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, George Flemings; special daughter and caretaker, Stella Evans; special daughter, Lawanda Furlough; special caretakers, Domonique Dowell, Jakesha White, and Aryana Gregory; numerous nieces and nephews; her church family; and dear friends including special friend, Nadine Lennox. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Arthur Evans Sr.; three children, Arthur Evans Jr., Jacqueline Flemings and baby Joyce Evans; and many siblings. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, December 9, 2024 at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 2200 Manz St., Muskegon Heights, MI 49444, with visitation one hour prior. A Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Mary Lou will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mona View Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her honor can be directed to the family to pay for funeral expenses.
