Mary E. Hoffman's Obituary
Mary Ellen Hoffman, age 88 of Muskegon joined her Lord and Savior on March 24, 2024.
She was born June 19th, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan to Clyde and Thressa (Wiersema) Wilks, Sr. On August 22nd, 1953, she married her loving husband and caregiver of nearly 67 years, Bill, who preceded her in death in April 2020.
Mary was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She created a warm and loving home for her family and was an exceptional baker. Mary was a longtime member of the Fruitport Christian Reformed Church and often volunteered organizing luncheons for church funerals.
Mary enjoyed time with her family, sewing, cooking, crossword puzzles, bird watching and traveling with her brothers & sisters & their spouses. When her memory was failing, she always remembered her love for the Lord through singing hymns with her children. Mary will be especially missed by her family as she was the center of their family and held them together.
Survivors include four children: Denise (Nick) Lennon, Bruce (Barbara) Hoffman, Bradley (Sharon) Hoffman, Melissa Hoffman; 10 grandchildren: Amanda (Jason) Zylka, Emily (Peevee) Garcia, Andrew Chase, Ryan (Melissa) Hoffman, Sarah (Josh) Saagman, Christy (Steve) Lowe, Chris (Bill) Sturgis, Curt (Dacia) Dawson, Joe (Kate) Dawson, Kendra (Jordan) Musselman; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; siblings: Charles (Sara) Wilks and Sharon Locricchio. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Jr., Lyle, and Winston Wilks, two sisters, Blanche McLean and Leatha Hildebrandt, and one grandchild, Kory Lennon.
The service to celebrate and remember Mary’s life will be held Friday, March 29, at 11:00 AM at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The burial will take place at E. Dalton Oakhill Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mary Hoffman may be made to the Day Spring Assisted Living Life Enrichment Fund, 572 Lake Forest Lane, Muskegon, MI 49441, or the Alzheimer’s Association.
