Mary Jane “Geege” Sanford, age 78, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2020 at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. She was born August 28, 1941 in Muskegon to Raymond and Mary (Delaney) Gannon and was a lifelong resident. She graduated with the Class of 1958 from Muskegon Catholic Central High School. On March 17, 1967, she married Kenneth W. Sanford in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on October 14, 2003. Geege worked for Wolverine Express Transportation and later as a receptionist in the corporate offices of Plumb’s Groceries for over 30 years and retired in 2015. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Catholic Church where she volunteered on the collection counting team and with fund raising. She was also a recent member of the Polish Roman Catholic Union #78 where she would watch football games. Her passion was attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and lunches with her church lady friends. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Susanne Sanford & husband, Brock Dana; son, Kenneth R. (Allison) Sanford; 7 grandchildren, Audrey (Nic) Frank, Wade, Blake, Andrea, Ross Sanford, Kyler and Nick Dana; one great-granddaughter, Daisy Frank; 2 brothers, Jim (Marilyn) Gannon, Joe Gannon; 1 sister, Nancy Gannon; 2 sisters-in-law, Sally Simmons and Betty (Lyle) Cheever. Geege was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 1 brother, Bill Gannon. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak concerning social distancing, the Funeral Liturgy and Visitation will be postponed to a later date. Arrangements will be at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444.
