Mary Jane Jessen's Obituary
Mary Jane Jessen, age 77, passed away in Muskegon, MI, on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Mary Jane was born in Muskegon on March 6, 1948, to David and Fern (McClain) Swieringa Sr. She graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to receive her associate’s degree from Muskegon Community College. On July 28, 1990, she married James Jessen Sr, and the two of them spent 35 years together.
Mary Jane’s faith was very important to her. She was a longtime member at Faith Baptist Church and regularly listened to religious radio stations. She enjoyed crocheting and personalizing cards to send to friends and family members. She was a strong-willed and warm-hearted woman with a deep love for her family, especially for her grandchildren.
Mary Jane will be lovingly remembered by her husband: James Jessen Sr; three children: James (Toni) Jessen Jr, Michael Jessen, and Rebecca (Tim) Horne; five grandchildren: Dominique (Benjamin), Brooklyn (Brett), Eden (Joel), Eli, and Silas; one great-granddaughter, Joanna; six siblings: Jacob (Carol) Swieringa, Pastor James (Kathy) Swieringa, Esther Kaule, Ruth Louise (Chris) Rose, Paul Swieringa, and Martha Swieringa; two sisters-in-law, Kim (Ken) Dalga and Linda Swieringa; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings: David Swieringa, Daniel Swieringa, David Lee Swieringa, Ruth Ann Swieringa, and John (Jan) Swieringa.
A FUNERAL will be held for Mary Jane at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Faith Baptist Church, 3593 Whitehall Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444.
