Mary Lou Gielow's Obituary
MARY LOU GIELOW of Montague, Michigan, age 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2023. She was born in Muskegon, Michigan on October 9, 1930, to William and Esther Hall. After graduating from Muskegon High School in 1949, she attended Michigan State University where she met and later married Robert M. Gielow on August 2, 1952. She was a lifelong resident of the White Lake area and was an active member of many clubs and organizations, including the White Lake University Women, White Lake Garden Club, Greater Muskegon Service League, the White Lake Yacht Club, Muskegon Country Club, and Cam Club. She was a co-owner of a successful children’s clothing store in Whitehall, Michigan known as “The Kids Stop”. Throughout her long and active life, she had many interests. She was a voracious reader, loved boating, dancing, flowers, playing bridge with her friends and social gatherings. She adored her family and loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A woman of sharp intellect, she will be remembered as having a wonderful sense of humor and an opinion on just about everything that she was more than willing to share. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. SURVIVORS: Son, Eric R. Gielow (Renea), Daughters, Cristy Gielow, and Toni Hoppe (Karl). She was blessed with several grandchildren: Brendan Gielow (Megan), Britni Gielow, Erin Jehl (Jake), Allison Hoppe, Matthew Wiersma, and Zach Wiersma (Kate), as well as great grandchildren: Kittredge Gielow, Lake Gielow and Colton Wiersma. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her brothers, William and Bruce Hall, and sister, Alice Mae Hall (McGuire). SERVICE Saturday, October 14, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services with Pastor Steve Deur officiating.
