Mary Miedema's Obituary
Mary Miedema, age 90, passed away on her birthday, Friday, July 12, 2013, at her home. She was born to Mannes and Aggie (VanderKooi) Styf in North Blendon, MI; and has resided in the Muskegon area since 1953. Mary was a waitress for many years at Doo Drop Inn and Russ’; and interestingly, married a trucker, John J. Miedema, who preceded her in death on January 14, 2012. She was an active member of Hackley Hospital’s Cancer Support Group for many years, loving their get-togethers and parties. In fact, Mary’s favorite times were getting together with family and friends, saying, “its Five O’clock somewhere”. SURVIVORS include six children, Monte (Dianne) Overweg of Portland, MI, Rosemary (Jim) Robbins of Woodhaven, MI, Randy (Wilma) Overweg of Muskegon, Steven (Debbie) Overweg of Flushing, MI, Shann (Tom) Walburn of Muskegon and Joni (Trent) Taylor of Holt, MI; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Grandma Peaches”; and by 1 sister, Hilda Ponstein of Hudsonville. Mary was also preceded in death by her son, John Mark Miedema, grandson, Todd Overweg and by 4 brothers and 1 sister. FUNERAL SERVICES for Mary will be held 3PM Saturday, July 20, 2013 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 , 231-798-1100.
