Mary Ellen Mills' Obituary
Mrs. Mary Ellen Mills, age 80, passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Poppen Residence. She was born November 19, 1932 in Fargo, ND to Ole and Mary (Gerard) Grindahl. Mary served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. She married Murdock H. “Mert” Mills in St. Mary’s County, MD on November 10, 1954. Mary received her Bachelor degree from Western Michigan University and was a substitute teacher for Mona Shores Schools. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was an avid golfer and bowler with the Elk’s Leagues. She also volunteered for the Cherry Guild at Hackley Hospital. SURVIVORS include: her husband, Mert; her daughter, Susanne ( Irvin) Kebler of Okemos, MI; 2 grandchildren, Stephanie Kebler of Charleston, SC and Michael Kebler of Chicago, IL; 1 brother, Merton (Lois) Grindahl of San Bernardino, CA; brothers and sisters in law; Marilyn Quail, Stan (Jane) Mills and Bob (Linda) Mills all in the Muskegon area; also, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Rodney in 2010; 2 brothers, Owen and Charles Grindahl; 1 sister, Jean Manikowski; and her sister-in-law, Kay Louise “Cookie” Mills. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, Rev. Kirby Smith officiating. VISITATION will be Thursday, 6-8 p.m. and also, Friday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIAL contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice.
