Mary H. Powell's Obituary
Put your heart and soul into every activity you do, as though you are doing it for the Lord Himself. Colossians 3:23
Mary Helena Powell, age 74, of Muskegon, Michigan was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Mary was born to Herbert T. and Doris V. (Welton) Ginman on January 21, 1946. Mary was one of five children born to her parents. Mary graduated from North Muskegon High School in 1964. After many adventures, Mary’s career path led her to work for Sealed Power for over twenty-five years. On August 27, 1989, she married Tony Powell. Mary’s most personal accomplishment was being a founding member of the Muskegon Ostomy Group. Mary is preceded in death by her father, Herbert Ginman, mother, Doris Ginman, sister Suzanne Ginman, brother, Bill Ginman, and husband, Tony Powell. She is survived by her twin sister, Lynn (& Ted) Mauseth, sister, Nancy (& Ken) Overman, sister-in-law, Wilma Ginman, son, Tim Russell, step daughter, Lora Duram, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Mary will be remembered as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister. Mary was a woman of God, and she had her preferred seat near many friends to praise at the First Congregational Church of Muskegon. Her hobbies and favorite activities included watching the wildlife from her white room, finding treasures at yard sales, and walking her loving dog, Clifford. Mary also enjoyed golfing with her partners, traveling around the world, and spending time with her family and friends. Mary was full of life and hospitality, and she always put others first. Mary loved to make birthdays and holidays special for others. This included making her famous 7-layer salad, stuffing over 500 Easter eggs for all of the kids to find on Easter morning, and going out of her way to let you know that you were loved. We will miss her tremendously. She was always there to remind us to be appreciative and thankful. We thank God she was in our lives. Given the current circumstances, no funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. When gathering is safe, a small family service will be held. For those who wish to express sympathy, the family requests donations in Mary’s name to Muskegon’s First Congregational Church, or to a favorite charity. Arrangements handled by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Sign the guestbook online at www.sytsemafh.com
