Mary Jo Schuld's Obituary
Mary Jo Schuld, age 81, of Grand Haven passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. She was born October 7, 1938, in Grand Haven to James Joseph and Helen Marie (Meyer) Schuld.
Mary Jo was the owner and editor of three newspapers: The Austinite, Northwest Passage, and Portage Park Passage, for many years. She then established, The Austin Career Education Center, with Sister Colette Jolie. Mary Jo was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. She loved gardening, Lake Michigan, and the Grand Haven area, and was an avid reader. Mary Jo was a very giving person, helping many in need. She would often be heard saying “do they need help?”
Mary Jo is lovingly remembered by Sister Colette Jolie; cousin, Cathy (Blair) Buchanan; the Wienckowski family; and a wide net of close friends whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, James Schuld in 2005.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Gross as celebrant. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the mass at church. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Mary Light of Learning, 406 East Savidge Street, Spring Lake, MI 49456 are appreciated.
