Mrs. Mary Guerrina Steward's Obituary
Mrs. Mary Guerrina Steward, age 87, passed away Friday evening, February 5, 2016 at a local nursing home. Mary was born September 7, 1928 in Muskegon to Rocco and Rose (Fusco) Matteo. She was a St. Mary’s High School graduate and a lifelong resident of the Muskegon area. Mary wed George “Tony” Steward on January 17, 1957, and he passed away in 1987. She had worked at Lee Industries and Fleet Engineers prior to her retirement. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the Muskegon Widows Group, and the Red Hat Society of Muskegon. She also volunteered for many entities including the Frauenthal Center for the Performing Arts, Hackley Hospital, Muskegon Summer Celebration, and Parties in the Park. Most importantly, she was a mother, grandmother, and a wonderful homemaker who will be missed by her children, Rose (Jeff) Skocelas of Seattle, WA, and George (Teresa) Steward of N. Muskegon; grandchildren, Anthony (Karissa) Steward and Andrew Steward; sister, Grace (Frank) Wanto of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Alice Breen. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11 AM Friday, February 12, 2016, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1100 Dykstra Rd., with Rev Fr. Peter Vu presiding. VISITATION will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave. 231-726-5210. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church or Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
