Mary Alice Zahrt's Obituary
Mary Alice Zahrt, age 92, passed away Friday, October 1, 2021 at White Lake Assisted Living Center. She was born February 23, 1929 in Muskegon to William O. and Alice J. (McNaughton) Matthews and lived her entire life in the area. On July 11, 1951, she married Albert Frank Zahrt in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on September 9, 2015. Mary worked as a bookkeeper in her early years for Matson’s Car Dealership where she met and married Al. She later worked for Whitehall Manor for over 20 years and for Brookhaven Medical Care Facility for 7 years. Mary was an active member of Unity Reformed Church and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed NASCAR races, hummingbirds and helping others. Survivors include 4 children, Kathleen Ann (Doug) Buter, Rebecca Sue (Wayne) DeLong, William Albert (Polly) Zahrt, Thomas Christopher (Dawn) Zahrt; 10 grandchildren, Noah, Lauren, Andrea, Emily, Barry, Katherine, Rusty, Jennifer, Janell, Janine; 14 great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Baxter, Riley, Tucker, Caitlin, Sawyer, Brooklyn, Collin, Bella, Ean, Benton, Oliver, Eliza, and Emersyn. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter, Mary Jane Zahrt, her parents, 2 sisters, Delorah Browne, Jane Bolt and 1 brother, John “Jack” Matthews. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Road) with Pastor David Celeskey officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
