MaryAnn J. Garvey's Obituary
MaryAnn Joyce Garvey, age 83, passed away in Roosevelt Park, MI, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. MaryAnn was born on August 28, 1940, to Virgil and Beatrice (Thebo) Kemp in Muskegon, where she lived her whole life except for three years that she lived in Hawaii. On February 1, 1957, she married Gayle Garvey, and the two of them spent many wonderful years together before he preceded her in death on April 8, 2010. She worked in payroll accounting at Bastian Blessing, and then worked for some time as a secretary at Egler Industrial Waste before retiring. MaryAnn was a longtime member at VFW Post #446 and then at Post #8846, serving for many years as the Women’s Auxiliary President. Over the years she helped with many luncheons there and also volunteered at the veteran’s home in Grand Rapids. She was a gifted seamstress, knitter, and crocheter, and she also like to bake and read.
MaryAnn will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Clyde (Danielle) Garvey, Gale (Dean) Millar, and Dale Garvey; eight grandchildren: Sarah, Kevin, Kaylin, Gabrielle, Brianna, Nicholas, Mckenzie, and Kassidy; seven great-grandchildren: Michelle, Trevor, Kevin Jr, Leo, Dawson, Khlo’e, and King; two siblings: Marie Thompson and Jim (Debbie) Brown; two sisters in-law: Linda Kemp and Cindy Kemp; and many other extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Kemp and Beatrice Brown; husband, Gayle Garvey; four brothers: Bruce Kemp, John Kemp, Len Kemp, and Lee Kemp; and an infant sister, Judy Kemp.
A CELEBRATION OF LIFE will be taking place for MaryAnn at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at The Don Rea VFW Post 8846, 1061 Witham Dr, Muskegon, MI 49445. In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 8846.
