Mary Ann Peterson's Obituary
Mary Ann Peterson, age 80, of Spring Lake passed away Friday evening at North Ottawa Community Hospital. She was born January 8, 1929 to John “Jack” and Dorothy (Tietz) Bramer in Grand Haven and married George “Ed” Peterson on December 23, 1950 in Spring Lake. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1985.
Mary lived in the area all of her life and retired from Spring Lake Public Schools where she was a first grade teacher at Holmes School. She was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and formerly sang in the choir. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, entertaining by her pool and especially helping children with improving their reading skills thru the use of phonics.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Mary Lynne (Ed) DeKiep of Spring Lake; 2 sons, John (Jan) Peterson of Grand Haven, Dave (Sandie) Peterson of Spring Lake; her grandchildren: David, Stacey, Emily Peterson of Spring Lake, Matthew Peterson and Lorelei Thayer of Grand Haven, Stephanie & Tom Deegan of Benton Harbor, Johna & Jonathan Hansen of New York, NY, Tyler & Trevor DeKiep of Spring Lake; great-grandchildren: Payton & MacKenzie Deegan, Jeremy Thayer & Oliver Hansen; and two dear friends, Caroline “Mac” Howe and Rosemary Pecott. In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a brother at birth.
The service for Mary will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery.
