Mary Ann Schadel's Obituary
Mary Ann Schadel, age 72, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, May 29, 2009, at her home. She was born September 8, 1936 in Carroll, Iowa to Alois and Mary (McGowan) Becker.
Mary Ann moved to this area in 1975 from Kendallville, Indiana and had been a former co-owner of Caress, Inc. Mary Ann was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a certified Religious Education Teacher and taught CCD for many years. She enjoyed being involved with her children’s activities like being a 4-H volunteer and Scout Mother. Mary Ann was always interested in current affairs and politics and also enjoyed reading, playing the piano, attending plays, concerts and the symphony; but most of all spending time with her family.
Mary Ann is survived by two daughters, Laureen “Laurie” Schadel of Nunica, Lisa Schadel of Muskegon; three sons: Michael (Angela) Schadel of Kendallville, IN, Paul (Susan) Schadel of Holland, Rick (Bonnie) Schadel of Ferrysburg; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia (Philip) Schulte of Perry, Iowa, Rose (Larry) Sanders of Millstadt, IL; a brother, Ferdinand (Virginia) Becker of Dover, AR; several nieces and nephews and a special friend, Vicki Mathes. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Heather Ann Schadel.
The service for Mary Ann will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Rev. Leonard Sudlik officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions to St. Mary’s School are appreciated.
