Mary Cecelia Gelakosky's Obituary
Ms. Mary Cecelia Gelakosky, age 100, passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2011 at Seminole Shores Assisted Living Center. She was born May 4, 1911 in Fruitport, MI to George and Mary (Schneidt) Gelakosky and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. Mary was most proud of her Irish heritage; begot of Crowley lineage of County Clare, Ireland. Mary’s childhood years were lived in Muskegon where her father owned “Sparkey” Electric Co., her mother managed Virginia Dare Dress Shop, and her grandmother (Julia Crowley) owned and managed a Confectionary Shop. Never married and with no children, Mary devoted much of her adulthood as caretaker of her mother. During the 36 years of 1938 to 1973, she worked in the accounting department as a senior account clerk at General Motors-Oldsmobile Division in Lansing, MI. Mary retired in 1973 and moved to Muskegon, where she lived across the street from her sister, “Bunny” for the remainder of her years. Mary is survived by 20 nieces and nephews who dearly loved her. She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Helen (Daniel) Callahan, Bernice Gelakosky, Kathlyn “Bunny” (Michael) Kuzma, Evelyn Anderson and her brother, Louis (Betty) Gelakosky. Mary was a communicant member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church and a member of the Muskegon Eagles. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 2:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2011 in Marian Chapel at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Julian Reginato officiating. ENTOMBMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the funeral, 1-2 PM Friday at the church.
