Mary E. Brock's Obituary
Mrs. Mary E. Brock, age 84, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010 with her daughter, Gloria, by her side. She was born December 4, 1925 in Sandy Bottom, NC to Johnny and Susan (Stroud) White. Mrs. Brock worked for a dress shop in Kinston, NC. She later moved to Muskegon, where she worked several years at the A & P Grocery Store. After her marriage to Mr. Brock, they moved back to North Carolina and settled in Albertson, where she took a job at a local grocery store. She was a member of the Pink Hill Presbyterian Church in Pink Hill, NC and was a life-time member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Brock enjoyed crafts, crocheting, knitting, needle point, and making her own clothing. She married Marvin Brock on August 27, 1968 in Guam. They were high school sweethearts and were reacquainted on a trip to North Carolina in 1967. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1978. SURVIVORS include her daughter, Gloria DeJohn of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Denise (Ryan) Himes of Dallas, TX, Jennifer (Shane) Fairfield of North Muskegon, Deanna (Matt) Flora of Battle Creek; 6 great-grandchildren, Nathanael Cole and Rebekah Ann Himes, Raven Alexis and Syann McCoy Fairfield, Jayden Thomas and Anyahna Maree Flora; her aunt, Ruth McDuffie; and her life-long dearest friend and sister-in-law, Dolly Ruth Rouse. She was also preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; 4 sisters; and her son-in-law, Tommy DeJohn. She is loved and missed by so many. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Harper Southerland Presbyterian Church in Albertson, NC with the Rev. Charles Love and her nephew, the Rev. Glen Brock officiating. A poem titled: “Forever Remember Me”, written by Mary's great-niece, Chrissy Bortz, will be read at the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery. MEMORIALS to the Alzheimer’s Association will be appreciated.
