Mary E. Pendell-Treat's Obituary
Mary E. Pendell-Treat, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, January 14 at Seminole Shores Assisted Living Center. Mary was born in 1921 in Marinette, WI. She graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1939 and from Western Michigan University in 1969 and earned a Masters Degree from WMU in 1972. She was married to Howard Pendell from 1941 until he died in 1992. She married Rev. Robert Treat in 1994. Rev. Treat died in 1999. Mary is survived by 1 sister, Eleanor (Orie) Meyer of Ferrysburg; 1 brother, Glenn Hinkle, Jr. of Florida; 4 sons, Bill (Darlene) Pendell of Cedar Creek, Texas, David (Linda) Pendell of Bloomington, IL, John (Jean) Pendell of Trenton, MI, and Steve (Marie) Pendell of Aurora, IL; 2 daughters, Gail (Paris Copeman) Hale of Rosebush, MI, and Martha Treat-Colburn of Muskegon. In addition Mary has 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Mary was a dedicated teacher who started her teaching career at Duck Creek School in 1966 and taught at Nelson School in Muskegon for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Mary was a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church, the Muskegon County Retired Teachers Association, the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Women’s Division of the Muskegon Chamber or Commerce. In 1981 Mary was among the recipients of the Inaugural Michigan Excellence in Teaching Award for her service to Muskegon Public Schools. Mary brought love to all she knew and all she did. She loved her church, her friends and her family. Though her passing brings great sorrow; her love remains. A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Lakeside United Methodist Church. Visitation is planned for Friday, January 16 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the
