Mary Eckford White's Obituary
Mrs. Mary E. White, age 80, entered into the Eternal Glory of our Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2007, following a courageous battle with many illnesses, she took her place in God’s Kingdom. She was born July 26, 1926 in Starkville, Mississippi to Lillie Bell and James Rogers, Sr.. The former Mary Rogers married Mr. Herman E. White in 1958. She was employed at the Pepsi Cola Bottling Plant in Columbus, Mississippi and was a member of Spring Street Baptist Church in Muskegon. Mary moved to Grand Rapids, MI in 1980 where she attended New Life Baptist Church and worked at Sherbrook Nursing Home as a supervisor. Mary loved to read and cook. She was a magnificent baker and enjoyed keeping her home immaculate. She also loved to talk about the “Old Days,” share recipes and pass on her words of wisdom to her grandchildren. She leaves 2 daughters to cherish her memory, Portia (Raymond) Kidd of Muskegon and Joan Devlin of Grand Rapids; a cherished and devoted sister, Mrs. Lillie Bell (James) Hicks; 4 grandchildren, Shannon and Ashley Morris, Todd (Dr. Shauna Baker) Faasse and Danielle (Eric) Scholtens; 3 great grandchildren, Isaac, Judah, Levi and many nieces, nephews and devoted friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister and a brother, and a cherished nephew and son-in-law. In accordance with Mary’s wishes she will be cremated. A Home Going Memorial Service will be celebrated at 12 Noon on Monday, February 19, 2007 at Mt. Zion COGIC (188 W. Muskegon) with Pastors Jeffrey Hough and Duane Bennett officiating
