Mary Ellen Cardinel-Smith's Obituary
Mary Ellen Cardinel-Smith, age 55, of Spring Lake passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2008, at her home. She was born December 14, 1952, in Grand Rapids to Raymond and Eleanor (Ignatowski) Antecki. She married Roderick H. Smith on July 4, 2000, in Grand Haven.
Mary Ellen moved to the Tri-Cities area from Saranac in 1998. She previously worked at the Lowell Antique Mall, and she enjoyed making crafts. She also loved animals, golfing, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors. Mary Ellen also enjoyed playing cards, visiting garage sales, playing guitar, singing in the choir, swimming, and gardening. She especially enjoyed children.
Survivors include her husband, Rod; a daughter, Melissa (Dan) Cooper of Saranac; two sons, Scott Cardinel of Ionia and Craig (Jamie) Cardinel of Belding; five grandchildren: Taylor and Daniel Cooper, Spencer Middling, and Andrew and Collin Cardinel; a sister, Francine (Bob) Wolters of Ada; two brothers, Joseph (Jan) Antecki, Sr. of Grand Blanc, MI and Thomas Antecki of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Kimberly.
The Funeral Liturgy for Mary Ellen will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 30, 2008, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand Haven with Rev. William Langlois as celebrant. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Nunica Cemetery.
