Mary H. Kronlein's Obituary
Mrs. Mary H. Dewald-Kronlein, age 86, passed away Wednesday evening, November 3, 2010. She was born May 24, 1924 in Muskegon and had resided here all her life. Mary married Harold G. Dewald on July 26, 1941 and he preceded her in death on February 11, 1984. She later married William E. Kronlein on January 17, 1991 and he also preceded her in death on August 15, 1996. Mary graduated from Western Michigan University in 1971 and was a member of the Amicron Sorority. She taught at Holton Public Schools and then at the Muskegon Public Schools until her retirement in 1986. Mary was active in the former St. John’s United Church of Christ and then in Olivet Evangelical Free Church. She was president of the Tri City Council PTA as well as both Nims and Nelson Schools PTA. Her activities mostly centered around children. She designed and created costumes for children’s school plays and was active as a leader in both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Mary wrote a book of poems and sent cards and greetings to friends with her personal messages. Mary leaves seven children: Judy (the Rev. Paul) Snuffer of Plymouth, MN, James (Mary Lou) Dewald of Fruitport, Charles Dewald of Flint, Sandra (Edward) Drougal of Sparta, Mary (Tony) Leonard of North Muskegon, Betty (Dennis) Tomorsky of Elmgrove, WI, and Roseanne Krypel of LaVista, NE. She also leaves twenty grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren; step-son, Dr. William Kronlein of Whitehall; step-daughter, Sheryl (Mike) O’Hare of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Emily Hammond of Twin Lake; brother, Norman (Pat) Witte of Owosso; two sisters-in-law, Marjory Petersen of Bloomfield, NJ and Lorraine Dewald of Muskegon. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will take place 11:00 AM Saturday, November 13, 2010 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. (231) 798-1100 with her son-in-law Rev.
