Marylyn Joyce Coleman's Obituary
Marylyn Joyce (Groters) Coleman, a cherished lifelong resident of Grand Haven, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on June 15, 1936, Marylyn illuminated the lives of those around her with warmth, creativity, and an unwavering love for her family and community.
A proud graduate of Grand Haven High School’s Class of 1954, Marylyn’s life was a tapestry of rich experiences and deep connections. It was at Warbers Dairy that she met her beloved husband, Bobby Jack Coleman, embarking on a lifelong journey together when they married on July 24, 1954, and he preceded her in death on November 14, 2021.
Marylyn was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Berdean (Rycenga) Groters; her son, Daniel Scott; and her sisters-in-law, Dianna Coleman and Joann Jett.
She is survived by her loving family, children: Robert (Rachelle) Coleman, Lorri Coleman, and Kelly (Gary) Ramsden; grandchildren: Jennifer (Rob Jarvis) Hendricks, Bryan (Lori) Mulcahy, Dr. R. Ross (Megan) Coleman, Owen (Julianne) Mulcahy, Brett (Erika) Ramsden, Kendall (Tim) Bogue, Mara (Chris) Van Tubergen, and Kim (Peter) Medema; Great-grandchildren: Natalie, Scott, and Nolan Hendricks; Frank, Maggie, and Tessa Mulcahy; Harrison and Nora Van Tubergen; Brooklyn, Cole, and Dax Ramsden; Eli and Gavin Bogue; Magnolia and Elouise Coleman; and Hannah Medema; brother, LeRoy (Mary) Groters; brothers-in-law, James Coleman and Ken Jett.
Marylyn’s passions were as vibrant as her personality. She had an innate talent for interior design, favoring bright colors that mirrored her joyful spirit. Her love for flowers and gardening transformed her surroundings into blooming sanctuaries, reflecting her appreciation for nature’s beauty.
She delighted in people-watching, traveling with friends, embarking on long train rides, and boating adventures. Her deck was a cherished gathering place where she entertained guests, sharing stories and laughter. The family cottage on Ford Lake was her sanctuary, a place where memories were woven amidst the tranquility of nature.
Above all, Marylyn’s greatest joy was her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each holding a special place in her heart. Her legacy of love, creativity, and warmth will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.
A celebration of Marylyn’s life will be 1:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2025, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her name to the following organizations: Trinity Hospice: Donations can be made through Trinity Health At Home’s website, The Michael J.
