Matt was truly one of a kind.
Since meeting him in the sixth grade, Matt became a dear friend. From middle school through our music practices in high school, during university at MSU, and while sharing a house when we began our careers near Lansing, I always valued his humor, curiosity, and decency.
People were naturally drawn to Matt. He was an expert storyteller with a fantastic sense of humor. He was a technical wizard who excelled at fixing things. He genuinely cared about people, showing this through his actions and the longevity of his friendships over many years.
Although we hadn't connected for several years, when I last saw him at a friend's wedding near Chicago, Matt remained the same profoundly humorous friend I had grown up with.
I’m grateful for that time we spent together and the memory of our conversation that night. And, I am thankful for the friendship we shared for so many years.
