Matthew L. Tomasiewicz's Obituary
Matthew L. Tomasiewicz, age 87, passed away on January 18, 2026, in Grand Rapids. He was born on January 2, 1939, to Henry and Wanda (Gebolys) Tomasiewicz in Muskegon. Matt worked as an educational consultant for MASD, representing Muskegon, Ottawa, and Kalamazoo Counties. He enjoyed canvas painting, building birdhouses, the outdoors, and yard work. He was an avid University of Michigan sports fan. In the late 70s, through his work as an educational consultant, he co-founded the Lakers Athletic Foundation to ensure that sports could continue at Spring Lake Public Schools, especially during a period when funding for sports was uncertain. On September 16, 1995, he married Lois White, and she survives him, along with his son, Mark Tomasiewicz, and many other family members. Matthew was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jacqueline; son, John Tomasiewicz; and sister, Janice Cox. A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced later this spring.
