Maureen Kay Nowak's Obituary
Maureen Kay Nowak, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Naples, FL surrounded by family on Thursday, June 13, 2024.Maureen was born February 4, 1940 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1959 where she met and married the love of her life, General John M. Nowak, on April 20,1963.Maureen is survived by her husband of 61 years, General John M. Nowak and their children Kim (Pat) Hatten, Suzi (Pat) Daniels, John(Susan) Nowak, Mike (Denise) Nowak, Lynn (Jimmy) Hutson. She is also survived by their grandchildren Jessica (Russel) Hightower, Tracy (Jordan) Couillard, Nicole (Zech) Keen, Bryce Hatten, Andrew Nowak, Jacob Hatten, Jimmy Hutson, Cameron Nowak, Jarrett Hutson, Laney Hutson, John Michael Hutson, Gabrielle Nowak and their six great grandchildren Brady Keen, Kennedy Keen, Charlie Hightower, Kane Keen, Brooks Hightower, Cooper Couillard. Maureen is also survived by her sisters, Patty Meyer, Bonnie (Dave) Wesorick, Judi Henry, Kathy (Lee) DeWitt, sister-in-law Jackie Raggio and brother-in-law Richard Nowak. She was preceded in death by her parents Morris and Helen Henry, brother Morrie Henry, her in-laws John and Dorothy Nowak, Dave Raggio and Robert Meyer. Maureen was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. Nothing was more important than ensuring the strength and bonds of family. Her smile could light up a room and she never met a stranger. She was the epitome of elegance and class, with just enough sass! Maureen was a proud and distinguished Air Force wife for 32 years. While moving the family around the country, she found time to serve three times as President of the Air Force Officer's Wives Club, earning her reputation for always being one star ahead of her husband in rank. Maureen loved to entertain family and friends and was always ready for a game of bridge, poker or a trip to the casino. She will be missed by all. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, June 20, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Burial will take place at Lakeshore Cemetery in Grand Haven. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will also be at the church, one hour prior to the mass.
