Max H. Schuitema's Obituary
Mr. Max H. Schuitema, age 68, passed away unexpectedly on Monday afternoon, November 28, 2011 at Hackley Hospital. He was born June 14, 1943 in Muskegon to Henry L. and Matilda (Johnson) Schuitema and had been a life resident of the area. Max was a 1966 graduate of Michigan State University and was co-owner of Warner-Schuitema Moving and Storage for over 45 years, with his brother, Sherwood. Max was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and was a member of Samuel Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as an avid fan and generous supporter of MSU’s Alumni Association. He also enjoyed harness racing horses; and at one time had owned several with his brother, Sherwood. SURVIVORS include his brother, Sherwood (Shirley) Schuitema of Spring Lake; sister, Eloise South of Muskegon; 13 nieces and nephews, Bruce (Linda) South, Barb (John) Crandall, Max Bluhm, Debbie (Dan) Baglien, Kurt (Terri) Bluhm, Kim (Jayne) Radtke, Pam (Jerry) Kuziak, Maryjane (Bruce) Peterson, Steve (Sue) Schuitema, Kevin (Sharon) Schuitema, Russ (Lori) Schuitema, Lori (Mark) Kling and Sherri (Jim) VanderWier; and by his special friends, Bob and Lori Goryl. Max was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Radtke and brother-in-law, Robert South. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Saturday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-7619). Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. VISITATION with Max’s family will be 6-8 PM Friday. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider the MSU Alumni Association in memory of Max’s love of the “Green and White.”
