Maxine A. Travis' Obituary
Mrs. Maxine Alva Travis, age 101, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in Newaygo. She was born on May 18, 1922 in Muskegon to Elmer and Mary (Senecal) Pittman. A lifelong resident of the area, Maxine married the love of her life, Thomas L. Travis Sr on August 31, 1941 and they celebrated 63 years of marriage before he passed away on October 19, 2004. Maxine enjoyed making rag rugs on her antique loom and ceramic pieces with her family and absolutely loved gardening. She had quite a green thumb and could make anything grow in her flower and vegetable gardens. Maxine was also musically talented and traveled with her sister around Michigan with the singing group, Sweet Adeline’s. She also enjoyed spending time with Tom camping, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, Maxine adored her family and loved the time spent with her grandchildren. Maxine is survived by her children, Joan Messner, Thomas (Brenda) Travis, and Colly (Charles) Jackson; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great great-grandchildren. Maxine’s family would like to thank Newaygo Medical Care Facility of Fremont, MI for all the wonderful and loving care they gave our mom. They treated her like family and words cannot express our gratitude. A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, July 9 at Egelcraft Mobile Home Club House, 2129 Arrowhead Dr., Muskegon, MI. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. Please feel free to share a memory with the family online at www.sytsemafh.com.
