Maylis K. Mork's Obituary
Maylis Kathryn Mork, age 98, passed away in Whitehall, MI, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. She was born on May 10, 1926, in Hastings, MI, to Charles and Vera (Fleming) Gibbs. She graduated from Hastings High School and then from Emmanuel Missionary College. On July 20, 1958, she married Robert Mork, and they spent many wonderful years building a family together until he preceded her in death in 1984. She worked as a teacher for 28 years at Reeths-Puffer Elementary School. She was a longtime member at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Muskegon, playing the organ and piano there for many years. She had a great appreciation for nature and greatly enjoyed the time she spent birding with the Muskegon Nature Club and with a group from Ottawa County. She loved camping, hiking, and looking for different flowers in the spring. She enjoyed traveling, especially with the Elder Hostel Group she was a part of. She loved spending time with her family.
Maylis will be lovingly remembered by her two children: Donald Mork and Mary Ellen (Michael) Metheny; three grandchildren: Michael Ames, Matthew (Dr. Shannon Shaker DMA) Ames, and Jason (Jasona Stewart) Ames; step-grandchild: Nicholas Metheny; and one niece, three nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Vera Gibbs; husband, Robert Mork; an infant son, Roger Mork; sister, Thelma Gilbert; and an infant brother, Warren Gibbs.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3040 Evanston Ave., Muskegon 49442, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior.
