Melva J. “Jo” Detamore, age 70, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2024, in Muskegon, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 11, 1954, to Melvin “Charles” and Joyce (VanHemert) Pomeroy in Muskegon, where she has been a lifelong resident. She graduated from Muskegon High School class of 1972. On July 18, 1975, she married the love of her life, Tom Detamore. Together they cherished 48 years full of love and endless laughter. Melva was a supportive wife, proud mother, and took pride in maintaining her home. In her earlier years, she enjoyed tending to her flowers in her lavish garden. She was known to many as a “mother to all.” She had an open-door policy with her family and friends and loved filling her home with laughter and the ones she adored. Melva was kind, caring and was loyal beyond all measures. She was also known to be a “tough egg” and had the perfect amount of feisty and fierceness. Above all, Melva cherished the moments spent with her family and she loved them hard. Her ability to make you smile and fill a room with laughter will never be forgotten. She is survived by her loving husband, Tom Detamore; three sons, Matthew (Stephanie) Detamore, Adam (Bethany) Detamore and Ryan (Codi) Detamore; four grandchildren, Tyler (Megan) Davis, Deklan, Everlee and Laila; two sisters; Darlene Sullivan and Debra Pomeroy; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. In accordance with Melva’s wishes, no services will be held. Arrangements entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S.
