Melvin Richard Arnson's Obituary
Mr. Melvin Richard “Mel” Arnson, age 88, was reunited with his Honey on Monday, December 9, 2019. He was born in Muskegon on April 5, 1931 to Richard and Marian (Porter) Arnson. Mel was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. On June 23, 1956, Mel married the former Frances B. Tutak, and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2014. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Mel had been employed by American Store Equipment for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1994. He was a talented woodworker and carpenter and built several homes, including a retirement cottage on Big Star Lake, that he built with his sons. Mel was an avid reader, he enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, and he loved his family. He is survived by three sons, Derek (Judy) Arnson, Brent (Sue) Arnson, and Brian (Alison) Arnson; six grandchildren, Kelsey (Kyle) Karum, Brandon Arnson, Katie Arnson, Jordan (Sarah) Arnson, Joshua (Lindsey) Arnson, and Benjamin Arnson; three step-grandchildren; one great-grandson, Marek Karum; one step-great-granddaughter, Jayde Potter; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fran; his parents; sister, Shirley Champion; and several brothers and sisters-in-law. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 14, 2019 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 with Fr. Norman Droski presiding. VISITATION will be from 5-8 PM Friday, December 13, 2019 at The Lee Chapel and one hour prior to Mel’s service on Saturday. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery. MEMORIALS in memory of Mel can be directed to the Harbor Hospice Foundation. His family would like to extend a special thank you to Paula and the staff at Families Manor for the wonderful care and love they extended to Mel the past nine months.
