Melvin L. Dykstra's Obituary
Melvin L. Dykstra, age 67, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016 in Muskegon. He was born on November 16, 1948 to Enoch and Mary (Horner) Dykstra Jr. in South Haven, MI. Melvin was a member of Faith Baptist Church. He retired from Sappi as a Master Electrician and was also an electrical instructor for IBEW for some time. Melvin served his country in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict and developed Agent Orange during his service time. He was a strong believer in gun rights and enjoyed belonging to the Black Powder Club and the Hesperia Gun Club. Melvin was also a ham radio operator “KB8GP” and enjoyed piano lessons later on in his life. On September 21, 1968 he married Lura Mary Whitaker in Hesperia she preceded him in death on February 27, 2006. SURVIVORS include daughter, Heather (Tim) Glombowski; granddaughter, Mary Jo (Nathan VanSlyke) Swiatek; great-granddaughter, Olivia VanSlyke; sisters, Della (Kim) Hasty, Joyce Dykstra and Dawn Dumas. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Duane, Merritt and Dale. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held for Melvin 11:00 AM Friday, May 13, 2016 at Faith Baptist Church (3593 Whitehall Rd.) with Pastor James Swieringa officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service at church. MEMORIALS can be directed to Faith Baptist Church. BURIAL will take place at E. Dalton Oakhill Cemetery.
