Melvin G. Witt's Obituary
Mr. Melvin G. “Mel” Witt, age 86, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at the Poppen House surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 6, 1929 in Muskegon to Gerrit and Rica (Boelkins) Witt and had been a life resident of the area. Mel was the Founder and President of Action Industrial Supply. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Calvin Christian Reformed Church (Muskegon), the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church (Juno Beach, FL), the Muskegon Country Club, and Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club of Jupiter, FL. Mel was an avid fan of the Spartans and Redwings. He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Joyce Fischer Witt, in 1994. He then married Janet Pearson and she survives him along with his 3 children, Peggy (Robert) Peroutka of Hunt Valley, MD, Jayne (Steven) Pofahl of Grand Haven, and Thomas (Jane) Witt of Norton Shores; 3 step-children, Thomas Mead (Lauri Mannion) of Traverse City, MI, Mary (Timothy) Crawford of Ormond, FL, and Carol Mead (Julian Littleford, deceased) of San Diego, CA; 10 grand-children, Jennifer Peroutka Miller (Patrick), Elizabeth Peroutka, Robert Peroutka, Stephanie Pofahl Halladay (John), Lauren Pofahl (Clark Baker), Logan Pofahl, Kyle Witt (Ali Hoofman), Kevin Witt, Robert McNiff and Michael McNiff; 3 great-grandchildren, Kilee Halladay, Jayse Halladay, and Hadley Baker; 4 step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Crawford, Margaret Crawford, Samantha Littleford and Thomas Littleford; 1 sister, Carolyn (Richard) Hagen of Muskegon. FUNERAL SERVICES FOR Mr. Witt will be held at 11:00am Friday, April 29, 2016, at Calvin Church with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Mel’s family will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
