Melvin LeRoy Howe's Obituary
Melvin LeRoy Howe, age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at his home in Baldwin, MI. He was born January 16, 1936 in Hesperia, MI to Glen M. and Mary A. (VanVleet) Howe. Melvin was a veteran of the U.S. Army. On September 3, 1965, he married Gloria Jean Phillion in Shelby, MI and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2024. Melvin worked as a carpenter for Local Union 100 for over 30 years and retired in 1996. He really enjoyed attending the Buckley Engine Show every year and enjoyed “scrapping” in his spare time. Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Howe; 3 grandchildren, Kyle Howe, Kayle Howe, Atalissia Cooper; 2 great grandchildren, Aubrey Cooper, Dayton Cooper; 2 sisters, Alberta Harrald and Sally Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Howe; his son, Lyle Howe; his parents, Glen and Mary Howe; and 1 sister, Barbara Sidock. A Funeral Service will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442, with Rev. William J. Rudd officiating. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the honor detail from the Michigan Army National Guard. Interment will follow at Fruitland Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
