Melvin H. LaNore's Obituary
Melvin H. LaNore, age 90, passed away in Florida, Thursday, September 3, 2015. He was born November 6, 1924 in Muskegon to Ray and Mildred (Lowe) LaNore. Melvin was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the VFW Fruitport Post 8836, Grand Haven American Legion Post 28, and the Disabled American Veterans Club. On July 19, 1943 he married the former Pauline E. North in Muskegon. Melvin worked 35 years as a mechanic at the Farr View Dairy, was a volunteer Fruitport police officer, and also at Muskegon Brake as the service manager before his retirement in 1987. He then worked at the Fruitport Golf Course for a number of years. He was a member of Fruitport Congregational United Church of Christ. SURVIVORS include his wife, Pauline; 6 children: Linda (Doran) Williams of Grand Haven, Melvin R. (Judy) LaNore of Fruitport, Pamela (Dennis) White of Muskegon, Michael (Anna) LaNore of Twin Lake, Sherri Dawson and Cynthia (Brian) Peterman both of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren, 1-1/2 great-great-grandchildren; and his brother, Marvin (Virginia) LaNore of North Muskegon . He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry in 1972; great-granddaughter, Tricia Nicole; two brothers, Raynold and Bill LaNore; and a sister-in-law, Josie LaNore. Mel had a history of helping anyone who needed his assistance, whether they were building a house or broken down on the road, and loved to dance and talk to people. A MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR MELVIN will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 18, 2015 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with Pastor Don Wood officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Thursday, September 17, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Fruitport Congregational United Church of Christ would be appreciated.
