Mr. Melvin J. Leggett's Obituary
Mr. Melvin J. Leggett, age 85, passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Poppen Residence. Mr. Leggett was born December 17, 1929 to Earnest and Marjorie Leggett in Ripley, Tennessee. On June 12, 1958 he married Janette Ward and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2008. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Lakeside Eagles. He was employed as a bleach plant operator at Sappi Fine Paper for over 38 years, retiring in 1994. He was an avid collector of unusual items. “Grandy” was very passionate about his 3 grandsons, attending all their events with a truckload of snacks and drinks. “Grandy” will always be remembered as loyal, fair, and clever, and will live in our hearts forever. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Melba (Daniel) Darcy of Norton Shores; grandsons, Breton, Tanner and Daniel Darcy; 3 brothers, Jolly R. (Mary Lynn) Leggett of Blytheville, AR, Daniel P. (Lola) Leggett of Alton, IL, and Joseph D. Leggett of Ripley, TN; and special friends, Jim and Doris Elrod. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and a sister. A PRIVATE GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence
