Melvin L. Lewis' Obituary
Melvin L. Lewis went to be in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 18, 2020 at the age of 87. He was born on January 31, 1933 to Cecil and Myrtle (Johnson) Lewis in Muskegon, MI and has lived here his whole life. He was a faithful servant of Our Lord and attended Fifth Reformed Church. He loved serving his country in the US Air Force, where he was stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He was a dedicated employee at Muskegon Piston Ring, where he worked as a machinist for 31 years before retiring. On July 30, 1976 he married the former, Barbara Spurrier (Bene) and together they cherished 44 years of marriage. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed camping and hunting. He and his wife Barbara loved to hunt Michigan white-tail deer. He liked to scuba dive in Florida and Michigan and also enjoyed snowmobiling up North in the winter. In the summer, he rode his motorcycle and was a charter member of the Muskegon Sonshine Riders, which was a Christian Group of Motorcyclist. Together the two took motorcycle rides from Muskegon to Nova Scotia. After retiring, they came across a great experience driving for Kirksey & Associates. He and Barb had some of the best memories during those 8 years while they worked there. They truly made the most of life with the time they shared together. He was an adventurous man that enjoyed exploring and taking on new challenges or experiences. Melvin was known to be a man of many talents and was always willing to help others out. Above all things, he was a gentle and caring person who truly loved his family. He will always be remembered for selflessness and willingness to help others. He was a vivacious and tender-loving soul who will truly be missed by all that knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Lewis; four children, Pamela Lewis Havermans, Bambi Lewis Wilson, Sharon Hepler and Diane (Mike) Malewitz; five grandchildren; Ryan, Nicole, Joseph (Jessilyn), Zach (Carrie) and Meghan; and nine great-grandchildren.
