Melvin T. Wahr's Obituary
Mr. Melvin T. Wahr, age 88, went to be with his Lord Wednesday afternoon, October 14, 2009, from the Poppen Residence. He was born February 27, 1921 in Fountain, MI to Joseph and Mona (Letson) Wahr and has resided in the Muskegon area most of his life. Melvin was retired from CWC Textron where he had been employed 43 years as an overhead crane operator. He attended McGraft Memorial Congregational Church. One of Melvin’s greatest joys was teaching his children and grandchildren how to fish and the many fishing trips they had together. On December 6, 1941 he married the former Vivian Stewart and she survives him along with 2 children, Rev. Dr. Gerald (Gloria) Wahr and Rhonda (Randy) Crawford, of Muskegon; his son-in-law, Gordon VanDuinen of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren, John (Ruth) Crawford, Nikolaus (Jamie) Crawford, Leiya (Jason) Chronister, Erik Crawford, Amanda (Joe) Kinnucan, Nathan VanDuinen, Gina (Evan) Holcomb, Jayne Wahr, Gerald Dante Wahr and Gregory (Linda) Wahr; 14½ great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Reho (James) Brentana and Cleo Unwin of Muskegon, 1 sister-in-law, Frances Wahr of Montague. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marjorie VanDuinen in 2004; 1 brother, Clarence and 2 sisters, Mildred Clingan and Dorothy Therrian. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held 2PM Saturday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210)with the Rev. Steven Hyma officiating. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. VISITATION with Melvin’s family will be 6-8 PM Friday. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to the Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence will be appreciated.
