Mercedes Ebba Horness, age 87, made her journey to heaven on Sunday, May 22. We are happy she is finally at peace, with her husband Eugene by her side. Born May 11, 1918 to Herbert and Mayme (Oberg) Bellmore, she lived in Muskegon all her life. She married Eugene Ellis Horness on December 17, 1938 and they spent almost 64 years together before his death in December 2001. She is survived by her son, Roger (Carlene), and daughter Susan (Ronald) Gonder. Grandchildren are Shannon, Jason, Eric and Julie Horness and Ryan Gonder. Her great-grandchildren, who always made her smile, include Taylor, Lieschen, Brennan and Hailey. Also surviving is brother-in-law Marcus (Joyce) Horness, sisters-in-law Esther Shamel, Florence (Herb) Meppelink, Ruth (Marcus) Johnson, Virginia Horness and Lois (Willard) Davis. Mercedes lived her life happy to be caring for her husband and children. She helped with her grandchildren in their young years, loving every minute. Mercedes was a devote Christian and a longtime member of Orchard View Congregational Church. She served as pianist for 17 years, accompanying choir and congregational singing.
