Mr. Merle Wayne "Mert" Postmus, age 72, passed away Tuesday December 12, 2006 after a long illness with his wife Linda at his side. Merle was a life-long Muskegon businessman and former owner of Merle's Office Supplies and Merle's Office Furniture. He eventually sold his store to West Michigan Office Interiors where he was employed until his retirement in 1999. Merle was born on September 23, 1934 in Holland Michigan to Herman Postmus and Johanna Meurer Postmus. He is survived by a brother Robert Postmus (Karen) of Twin Lake, a sister Maxine DeKryger (Jim) of Fremont and was preceded in death by his brother and sister in law Terry and Judy Postmus. Merle and his former wife Edith "Rody" Postmus are survived by their five children, Linda VandeGuchte of Norton Shores, Wayne (Don Veitenheimer) Postmus of Rockford, MI, Cindy (Mike) Terrien of Racine, WI, Debra (Don) Dekker of North Muskegon, Brian (Cheryl) Postmus of Merritt Island, FL; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In 1994 Merle suffered the unexpected loss of his second wife Carol Laird Postmus. He is survived by her two sons Jeffery and Brian (Patty) Laird of Muskegon and 3 step grandsons. Merle married Linda (Colon) on June 6, 1998 at Christ Community Church in Spring Lake where they are both members. He is survived by Linda and her four children David Frantz, Melanie Scribner (Robert), and Elizabeth Colon (all of Grand Rapids) and Jamie Colon at MSU in Lansing and 6 step-grandchildren.
