Merritt V. Archer Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Merritt V. Archer Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 10, 2020 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Muskegon on March 23, 1937 to Mason and Elizabeth (VanderWeir) Archer Sr. Merritt was a veteran of the United States Navy. He owned American Royal Travel prior to his retirement. Merritt was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Don Rea VFW Post #8846. He enjoyed football, hunting, traveling, and spending time with his family. On July 17, 1965, Merritt married the former Paulette Burmingham in Muskegon and she survives him along with their children, Merritt (Lori) Archer, Jr., Mark Archer, and Jana (Ryan) Blanchette; eight grandchildren, Paige, Jalen, Mikayla, Merritt III, Alyssa, Ellis, Nicole, and Connor; and one sister, Merry (Tim) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mason Archer, Jr. and Fr. Marvin Archer; and one sister, Marilyn Cooper. PUBLIC VISITATION will be from 5:30 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. FUNERAL SERVICES for Merritt will be PRIVATE. Memorials in his memory may be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation. Burial will be in Laketon Township Cemetery.
