Michael W. "Mike" Hiner's Obituary
Michael William Hiner, age 75, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023. He was born August 12, 1947 in Muskegon to William Gordon and Margaret Lois (Pyatt) Hiner. Mike was a 1965 graduate of Reeths-Puffer High School where he was a standout baseball player and dominant pitcher. He worked 49 years prior to his retirement in 2015 for Alcoa/Howmet as a supervisor and was honored as being “one of the best” by his fellow co-workers. He also owned and operated Mike Hiner Taxidermy for many years and was widely known for his great work. Mike was an avid outdoorsman and would fish and hunt across the United States and Canada. He loved to go to Alaska to hunt big game along with his brother, Tim, as his guide. Mike also enjoyed pheasant hunting with his English Springer Spaniel hunting dogs and over the years had won many trophies and ribbons for canoe racing. Mike and his daughter, Alison, also never missed a yearly walleye fishing trip on Lake Erie. He was known for his quiet humor and gentle sarcasm and was always surrounding himself with family and friends. Mike will be missed by many. SURVIVORS include three children: Jennifer (Bob) McAlinden, Michael (Tammy) Hiner both of Muskegon, and Alison Hiner of Whitehall; six grandchildren: Caitlyn, Joshua, Noah, Addison, Olivia, and Lucas; two brothers: Timothy (Larisa) Hiner of Soldotna, Alaska and Kevin (Donna) Hiner of Canton, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Roth of Whitehall. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held 6-8 PM Monday, May 1, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100.
