Mr. Michael T. McDermott Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Michael T. McDermott, Sr., 77, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 31, 2017, at his home. He was born December 6, 1939 to James and Marie (Groleau) McDermott in Muskegon, and was a lifelong resident. Mike worked at Witt Buick for over 40 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, was an Ecumenical Minister at Mercy Hospital, volunteered at Sacred Suds, the prison ministry, and different soup kitchens in Muskegon. On October 10, 1964 he married Maureen G. Marfia, and she survives him along with 2 sons, Stephen McDermott, Paul (Janice) McDermott; 9 grandchildren, Melanie, Amanda, Michael III, Katie, Andrea, Owen, Elliot, Oliver and Emmett; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Corinne Ouelette. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Michael Jr.; and 2 brothers, Bob and Jim. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, November 6, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Visitation at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, will be from 2-5 PM Sunday, with the Rosary prayed at 1:30 PM. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
