Michael J. Pelt's Obituary
Michael J. Pelt, age 87, of Grand Haven, MI formerly of Clinton Township passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Medi Lodge at the Shore. He was born March 1, 1935, to Michael Jesse and Magdelen (Manz) Pelt. He married Sophie Marie Hydar on May 17, 1958, in Detroit, MI.
Mike served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He owned a Marathon Gas Station in Detroit, worked at Budd Wheel (where he received his millwright) which led to him working at Chrysler Corporation for nineteen years. Mike then went to work for Comerica Bank, starting as a warehouse worker and ended up as warehouse manager. He then worked for Macomb County as director of their food program. Mikes other interest’s were trains, doing puzzles, muscle cars, admiring war planes, which he was able to fly on a B17 at an air show.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Sophie Pelt; daughter, Margaret “Peggy” (Kevin) Whitford; son, Matthew (Teresa) Pelt; six grandchildren: Christopher (Jennifer) Whitford, Elizabeth Pelt, Jessica Pelt, Tiffany (Michael Schotts) Pelt, Victoria (John Suttorp) Pelt, Crystal Pelt; one great-grandson, Trevor Whitford; his sister, Ann McGuffin; sister-in-law, Maryann Pelt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Steven Pelt in 1998, his sister, Helen Elder, and one brother, Richard Pelt.
