Michael E. Smithers' Obituary
Mr. Michael E. Smithers, age 63, died at his home on Monday afternoon, November 26, 2018. He was born February 17, 1955 in Luckey, OH to Clair and Janice (Hacker) Smithers; and moved from there to Flint, MI and then to Comstock Park, where he graduated from high school. Mike attended Grand Valley State University. He had been a Brakeman/Conductor for CSX Transportation for 6 years and currently was VP of Sales for Michigan Lighting Systems of Grand Rapids. He enjoyed boating where he was known as “Big Skipper” to his family and friends; and he also enjoyed bowling, and golf with his golfing partner of 32 years, Bob Launs. On August 27, 2011 he married the former Sandra Hall and she survives him along with his 2 children, Heather (Jason) Rosenzweig of Rockford and Jason (Lindsay) Smithers of Hudsonville; 3 step-children, Amy Bajema of Grand Rapids, David Bowne, Jr. of Muskegon and Michael Bowne of Hesperia; 10 grandchildren and 1 sister, Connie (John) Oles of Ludington; his mother-in-law, Donna Hall of Muskegon; sister-in-law, Peggy (Michael) Williams of Arizona and brother-in-law, Harold (Shelley) Hall of Norton Shores. A CELEBRATION OF MIKE’S LIFE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 1, 2018, at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, 231-798-1100 with his friend, the Rev. Jim Barrett, officiating. VISITATION will be 6:00 – 8:00PM Friday, November 30, 2018 and one-hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to CJD Foundation (www.cjdfoundation.org)
