Michael R. "Mike" Sruba's Obituary
Michael R. Sruba, age 75, passed away at home with his family by his side, Tuesday, July 23, 2024. He was born June 13, 1949 in Grand Rapids, MI to Raymond A. and Dorothy M. (Parrish) Sruba and lived in the Muskegon area most of his life. Mike served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam and Korean war. Mike married Monica Jo Hindes on February 19, 1971 and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2011. Mike worked 28 years as the PGA Golf Pro at the Muskegon Country Club. He later founded the Eagle Island Golf Course which he and Monica owned and operated for many years. Mike attended St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. He was a longtime member of the Professional Golfers’ Association. He enjoyed playing cards with his buddies and family, especially cribbage and gin rummy. Mike loved spending time with his whole family, taking walks on the beach and golf course, attending car shows, and delighted in lots of family dinners. He collected old cars and enjoyed restoring them. Mike was also involved with the Muskegon Gun Club where he liked to participate in the range. Survivors include his children, Kristi (Frank III) Reeser, David Sruba; 4 grandchildren, Mac, Bea, Frank IV Reeser and Finn Sruba; 4 brothers, Daniel (Renate) Sruba, Raymond (Sonia) Sruba, Thomas (Joan) Sruba, Joseph (Barbara) Sruba; 1 brother-in-law, Craig (Ann) Hindes; and 1 sister-in-law, Dona (Tim) Bonnette. He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Monica Jo Sruba; his parents; and 2 brothers, Dennis and James Sruba. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church (2929 McCracken Street, Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Rev. Msgr. R. Louis Stasker presiding. Military Honors will be offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus following the Mass.
