Michael R. Straley's Obituary
Mr. Michael R. Straley, age 76, passed away October 2, 2021, at his home. He was born October 2, 1945, to Daniel and Phyllis (Kaber) Straley in Hart, MI and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. Mike was a U.S. Navy veteran, drove bus for different schools and events, and had been the groundskeeper at Muskegon Christian School for many years before moving to Utah. He moved back to Muskegon and was a member of Celebration Community Church. He was married to Karen Molewyk and she preceded him in death on November 2, 2011. Survivors include two daughters, Julia Straley and Brenda (John Thatcher) Straley; four grandchildren, Sebastian and Porter Whitesell, Aidan and Annika Thatcher; silblings, Patricia (Tom Froster) Straley, William (Kim) Straley, Sharon (Paul) Sikkenga, David (Darlene) Straley, Edward (Debra) Straley; several very special nieces and nephews; and many young people that Mike considered his ”adopted children” that he mentored. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Christina Straley, and his brother Fred Straley. A service to remember and celebrate Mike’s life will be held Saturday, October 23, at 11:00 AM at Celebration Community Church, 1260 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, 49441. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
