Michael J. Harmon, Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Michael J. Harmon, Jr. age 93, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, December 11, 2009 at a local hospital. He was born February 28, 1916 in Muskegon Heights to Michael Sr. and Anna Harmon.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of VFW Post # 3195 in Muskegon. He worked and retired from Teledyne Continental Motors. Mr. Harmon was known as the “Spark Plug” on the basketball court playing in the Pulaski Lodge league and in the Continental league and was recognized as, “The Little Man that was Always There,” on the basketball court. He loved sports and the out of doors, being an excellent golfer, who loved to fish and hunt.
On July 17, 1948 he married his wife Ruth Madison in E. Troy, WI, and spent 61 loving years together. She survives him along with 3 daughters: Susan (David) Joseph of Spring Lake, Sandra Scott of Thousand Oaks, CA, Sally Harmon of Grand Rapids; 2 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister: Ann Rosenstrauch of California, and special friends: Pat McClean and Mike Justema. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
A Memorial Service will take place 12:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Memorial contributions in honor of Michael may be given to Love INC or Spring Lake Presbyterian Church.
