Mr. Mike Kahlo's Obituary
Mike Kahlo, age 69, passed away Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born July 6, 1945 in Muskegon to Herb and Virginia Kahlo who preceded him in death along with 2 brothers.
The greatest love in Mike’s life was Alcoholics Anonymous. He was sober for 19 years and truly lived the 12 steps, doing service work even from his hospital bed.
Mike married the love of his live, Sally, 43 years ago on August 7 and she survives him. Their love story included a million small moments of sunsets, cookies and milk in bed, walks on the beach, holding hands and dancing in the kitchen.
The second greatest love of his life was his dedication to his students and his work at the Learning Annex of Whitehall High School. He wanted only the best for his students and his commitment to their success was apparent to everyone who knew him.
Mike graduated with his Masters in Education and Reading from Grand Valley State University and he continued to be involved in education through several literacy associations including Reading Workshop in Muskegon County. Mike was a life-long student himself and traveled to Columbia University’s Teacher’s College in New York City. Excellent literature was always an important part of his life.
Mike never met a stranger, loving everyone he met and always had a story to tell whether it was on the golf course, out fishing or going for a ride in the Buick.
Mike is survived by a tremendous number of loving friends and family members including 3 brothers and 2 sisters. He was truly blessed and filled with gratitude for the richness of his life.
VISITATION with the family will be Friday, August 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon.
