Mikki Lynn Schuitema's Obituary
Mikki Lynn Schuitema, age 58, passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, September 12, 2024 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born July 28, 1966, to Marvin and Maria (Gardner) Howard. Mikki graduated from Muskegon High School and later obtained her Medical Assistant Certificate from the Ross Medical Education Center. For over 20 years, she worked as a Phlebotomist for Quest Diagnostics. On June 23, 2021, she married Todd Schuitema in Las Vegas, NV. Together, they enjoyed riding motorcycles and boating, going to the theatre to watch movies, and then posting reviews on Facebook after each show. They also loved hopping in their Mustang to take random trips to wherever the road took them. Mikki also enjoyed going to Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings games, as well as taking in a concert or a music festival. She attended Living Word Church in Muskegon and was a Vikings Linne Lodge #57 member. Mikki just loved life. She lived her life to the fullest. Mikki always had a smile on her face. She was always willing to help and support her friends and family. The world was a better place with her in it. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. SURVIVORS include her husband, Todd of Spring Lake; three children: Michael (Pedro Joaquin Salgado, Venegas) Thompson of Las Vegas, NV, Jesse Ketchum of Spring Lake, and Paige (Kody) Heins of Clarksville, MI; was grandma “GiGi” to her granddaughter, Hallie Lynn Heins, whom she loved and adored and would spend hours talking to on FaceTime; father, Marvin (Ann) Howard of Norton Shores; sister, Michaun (Mike) Sweet of Muskegon; sister-friend Shana Wasilewski of Norton Shores; aunt, Nerita Howard of Muskegon; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maria Howard. A Celebration of Mikki’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 19, 2024 at Living Word Church, 1551 Wood St., Muskegon, MI 49442 with Pastor Tim Cross officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. In lieu of flowers, Mikki requested donations be directed to Labor Day Cars for Cancer of Muskegon.
